スベルドロフスク事件とは？
【回答】
モスクワの東850マイルにあるスベルドロフスクで1979/4/2，突然炭疽病が発生．約百人が感染し，少なくとも64人が死亡した．
現地の医者は当初，肺炎，次いで心臓麻痺と診断．
結局，モスクワから専門医が派遣され，炭疽病と断定．
ソビエト政府は，炭疽菌に汚染された肉を食べたのが原因であるとの発表を行った．
スベルドロフスクには第19工場 Compound 19
という名称で呼ばれる秘密の生物兵器工場があり，そこから誤って炭疽菌が漏れ出したのではないかと疑われた．
この疑いが正しかったと証明されたのは1992年5月．
発表を行ったのはエリツィン大統領だが，彼は事件発生当時，スベルドロフスク地区共産党の最高指導者だった．つまり，事件隠蔽の張本人だったわけである．
この事件により，ソビエトが1972年の生物兵器協定に違反していたことが明るみに出た．
